The Cistern Studio
My dear gentle viewers and art lovers,
You are probably very curious about the name of my studio so I would like to tell you all about it. My studio was once upon a time a water cistern that we had in our home. In fact we had two water cisterns. One was used for trucked in, treated water for domestic use and the other took in rain water from our roof which was used for watering and toilets. They were located beside our basement and underneath our garage. A time came when we were offered hook-up to town water and so we made the switch leaving us with two large rooms capable of being converted into living or, in our case working spaces.
We gained access to these rooms through the basement foundation by jack hammering two entry doors. With some carpentry and electrical work we created a well lighted and functional space to work and create. The Cistern studio took on a unique character of its own and much has been developed in this precious place. It is a relatively small, humble space in comparison to many art studios but can handle a lot of activity.
A library full of books and resources. Computers, printers, scanners and other equipment to help me do my work. There is room to safely store paintings and supplies and a versatile area for painting.
Many art works were, and are still created here. Workshops happened and special events such as painting parties with friends and family. Through many years, art lovers from all over have come to visit and have purchased artworks from the Cistern Studio. Many thoughtful conversations about art theory, plans and dreams, goals, aspirations and chats about every day life took place within the cistern walls. It has earned a special place in my heart and provides me with room to grow, create and live. So come and visit The Cistern Studio and see what it has to offer to you in art and creativity or just to talk about life and the art of living.
Cheers!
